Groundhog Day Party Ideas

groundhog day party

Don’t let the winter blues get you down, celebrate with a Groundhog day party. This party can be fun showing the juxtaposition between the seasons. Traditionally this weather holiday is celebrated starting at the crack of dawn. We all head out early in the morning to spy on a groundhog and determine when the groundhog wakes up and comes out of his hole, will he see his shadow. If the groundhog sees his shadow there will be six more weeks of winter, and if the groundhog does not see his shadow there will be an early spring.

Go See the Groundhog

This might seem like a daunting task, but it is just one early morning. Go and experience the thrill of seeing the groundhog. This should be experienced at least once in everyone’s life. Remember to toast the Groundhog with a morning coffee (and if not driving make it Irish).

Groundhog Day Craft

This craft idea is fun and young kids think it is great. I photo copied a small thin groundhog. If you wish you could draw the groundhog. Have the kids color in their groundhog. Next, glue the groundhog on either a large popsicle stick or tongue depressor. Then decide what you wish for the background. My kids loved using a toilet paper roll (they colored with marker and crayon) for the groundhog’s hole. Or if you don’t have a toilet paper roll then use a folded paper that you can write Happy Groundhog Day. Put a small hole in the bottom so you can move your groundhog. Either way the groundhog can come out of his home to see if he can see his shadow.

Groundhog Day Movie

If you are looking for a little giggle watch the movie Groundhog Day with Bill Murray. This movie is why I love Groundhog day. It is a ridiculous romantic comedy. This movie transforms the main character into a better person by repeating Groundhog day, which the character loathes, over and over. Within his personal transformation he falls in love.
